"The focus, however, is on autochthonous varieties with Lagrein as the flagship," Pichler emphasises. These thrive in the historically valuable Huberfeld, the "heart" of the total 4.5 hectares of vineyards - completed by sites in Missian and, more recently, Gaid. "With the young plants, we are aiming for an annual production of 25,000 bottles," says Pichler. A characteristic feature of the business is the farm-gate sales, which still account for 70 per cent today - mainly through regular customers from Germany. "Most of it still takes place in the historic cellar," says Pichler. Today, however, a different wind is blowing at the closed farm in the direction of organic and climate-neutral.
