Eppan high trail
Breathtakingly beautiful hike in Berg | Eppan
Medium-difficulty hike under the Mendel crest, mostly on forest paths with beautiful vantage points over Eppan, the entire Überetsch and the Bozen basin.
From the Gasthof Steinegger the signpost no. 7 leads along a forest path on a moderate incline through deciduous forest to Matschatsch. Shortly before reaching the large clearing with meadow, trail no. 9 branches off to the right and takes you to the actual start of the Eppan high trail near the Mendelstreet, to the so-called Michaelercurve. The hardships of the ascent are now over and the trail continues slightly up and down in a northerly direction on narrow paths, partly through bush forest, to the Furglauer gorge. Cross the ravine, then continue steeply uphill for a short while on a gravel road and past the drinking water tunnel (a good place to rest and drink water). The road becomes a path again and reaches a crossroads shortly before Buchwald. On the right, there is the option of descending via an asphalt road and a path. Continue on alpine path no. 9, initially slightly uphill, then on a wide forest path in a long, almost level traverse northwards at the foot of the Gantkofel, until the forest path turns into a narrow path. The signpost no. 10/A is ignored and a few hundred metres further on, no. 12 leads in pleasant hairpin bends to the hamlet of Perdonig | Eppan. The asphalt access road from Perdonig | Eppan serves as the way home until signpost no. 8 directs you right into the forest. You will then reach the Kreuzstein inn in half an hour. Follow the signpost 8/B along the edge of the forest and in 30 minutes you will reach the starting point at the Gasthof Steinegger car park.
